I cannot offer fairy dust, magic wands or other quick fixes. Instead, I partner with students and families to apply brain-based techniques, goal-setting, and habit tracking to create long-term success. This is a process that takes time and hard work, but I am committed to helping you find success if you are willing to join me in working towards your goals.
Many students' grades will improve because of academic coaching and educational therapy. However, I do not believe that this should be the primary goal for this work or metric of success. Instead, I measure the impact of my coaching by whether or not students are feeling more empowered, less stressed, and less anxious.
While my job as an academic coach is to support students, this does not mean that I do all of the work. I ask students to make commitments between sessions to help them to continue moving forward towards their goals. If students are routinely not meeting their commitments, it is time to talk about whether or not they are ready for coaching.
Sure, the work we are doing together is important, but that does not mean that it needs to be boring. I focus on building positive relationships with students and establishing a coaching environment that is informal and comfortable.
