Below you will find some of my favorite websites, apps, videos, and books. I hope that you find these resources for students helpful, and that they provide you a taste of what you might gain from working with me.
Understood has great resources on topics that matter to anyone who thinks or learns differently.
Habitica turns accomplishing tasks and creating habits into a video game. It even allows you to play with your friends.
While not a website, I didn't have another category where this fit. Cold Turkey allows you to block websites, games, and other applications that tend to distract you during times that you need to focus.
Learning Ally provides human-read audiobooks for students with reading-based learning differences. It requires a subscription and proof of a documented disability (learning, visual, or physical) that impacts reading.
Notability is my go to note taking app. Some of the things I love about it are how I can seamlessly integrate handwriting, drawing, typing, pictures, and documents into a single set of notes. It also allows you to record lectures.
Tick Tick is a great option for creating to-do lists and getting reminders to actually get things done. It works across platforms and has an "annoying alert feature that will keep reminding you of something until you take care of it.
Forest can help to gamify staying off the phone when you need it most.
So many students that I work with talk about having trouble shutting their minds off at night in order to go to sleep. Sleep stories have revolutionized my sleeping and might work for you. Slumber offers sleep stories, meditations for sleep, and calming music and sounds.
Others of us have a lot of trouble waking up in the morning. Alarmy is an alarm clock app that offers useful features such as alarms that get increasingly loud, wake up missions that must be completed in order to turn off the alarm, and wake up checks (with the paid version) just to name a few.
One Sec is available as both an app and a browser extension. Unlike some of the other tools that block sites, this tool is designed to make getting on those sites slightly more annoying and more intentional. It can be a bit tricky to set up, but once set up, it helps us to stop mindlessly going on sites that distract us and can also suggest when it might be time to take a break from scrolling.
This YouTube account is made by someone with ADHD for people with ADHD (and for those who care about someone with ADHD). She shares her personal ADHD toolbox and lots of helpful information in her videos.
This YouTube account is made by an expert in coaching for executive functioning, ADHD, and twice exceptional students. It has great information for parents and teachers.
Jessica McCabe has ADHD herself and has created this user's guide by and for the ADHD brain.
